1950 Effyh 500 cc Formula 3 built by the Hakanson Brothers in Sweden using the JAP motor. In this configuration and driven by team driver Ake Jonsson, the Effyh won the European Championship 3 years in a row from 1950 to 1952. In 1951, John Fitch introduced this model in the US winning his class at the Giants Despair Hillclimb in Pennsylvania and the F3 race in Bridgehampton, NY. It is not known if this car we are offering is John’s car from 1951. This car was owned throughout most of the 1950’s and 1960’s by Senator T. Newell Wood who held road races on his estate “Brynfan Tyddyn” in Pennsylvania and raced in the mid 1950’s by local racer Jack Dupont. In 1956, the car was updated by Senator Wood with the now more competitive Norton engine and suspension which also required a more aerodynamic body work. It raced again in 1957 finishing 2nd in class at Giants Despair. Its last race was in 1958. This is the way it is offered for sale today. Upon the Senator’s passing it changed hands to the current owner in 1970 and raced occasionally in VSCCA events. It resides in New York State. In the last 2 years the car has been restored and even though it is not in Concours condition, it is in complete running order, very competitive and ready for any vintage event.
